Welcome to Bellslea Stud Farm

Bellslea Stud Farm, based in Ayr, Scotland, is an award winning thoroughbred and sport horse breeding operation.

 

William & Agnes Johnstone and their daughter Nanette Aitken have bred quality horses for over 30 years. More recently their grand daughter Anneliese has joined the team.

Situated in the heart of Burns Country on over 40 prime acres of Scotlands finest land, Bellslea Stud Farm provides the perfect environment for breeding and raising thoroughbreds and sporthorses.

Careful management ensures that the land continues to offer the necessary nutrients for optimal growth and health of our youngstock. Highly professional and experienced staff combined with excellent facilities provide the best of everything required for raising youngsters. From breeding, to foaling, to the weaning process, our emphasis at Bellslea Stud Farm is on personalised care and attention for our horses

Bellslea Stud Farm has bred many winners of showjumping competitions and thoroughbred races over the past 3 decades.

Home to multiple winning International Sporthorses who have competed to a high level in showjumping both in the UK and abroad. Our resident jockey Anneliese Aitken has been a member of  the British Youth Teams in Children on horses, ponies and Juniors in Belgium, The Netherlands, Austria and France. Several Bellslea Stud Farm horses have represented Great Britain throughout Europe.

Our thoroughbred winners have been trained by local Scottish trainers, Jim Goldie and Keith Dalgleish, as well as world famous Mark Johnstone Racing, Yorkshire. The success of winning many National Racing competitions including Group and Listed races is a combination of these great trainers and from breeding carefully selected mares with some of the worlds finest stallions.

Our horses receive the highest standard of care in every stage of their lives, whether they are the top-performing sporthorses, racehorses, parenting the next generation at stud or retirees pursuing second careers.

We are now recruiting for seasonal stud hand positions at our base on the outskirts of Ayr.

The role involves the daily care of top-quality thoroughbreds and sporthorses, including broodmares, foals, young colts and fillies and competition horses.

The post also includes lunging, clipping and show preparation, having the horses turned out to a very high standard. An hgv licence is a benefit but not essential.
